As an artist my focus for creating work is always evolving as I connect with my world.
The form of a creative work initiates the opportunity to explore and provides a very direct and tactile way to communicate an idea. As a painter and ceramic artist, I’m drawn to how form, color and texture allow me to convey a connection with Nature. Through abstraction and disruption, I seek to share the emotional connection I feel.
In my painting I have been exploring how space can be disrupted in 2 D images to express emotion and create connection. The intention of my contemporary paintings is to create a space for the viewer to bring their experience to the work and include their thoughts and feelings in my colorful forms and contemplative layers. My mangrove series was created in response to dingy trips up mangrove creeks near Arlie beach. I found the colors and reflections in the mangroves took me to another world, so separate from the everyday. This connection lifted my spirts and I am in turn allowing Nature to connect with others through my work.
Recently, I have been drawn to the wings of the birds that live in the mangroves. I am finding through the use of these forms, I can give flight to the expression of my emotions.
In my ceramic works I’m drawn to flowing forms. I’m intrigued by the way in which the clay can still maintain a sense of movement when it is hard. The organic nature of these forms has taken this sense of flow and movement further toward bringing a sense of Nature into my work.
